Delivering projects to the highest standards has always been the most important thing for us at ENWCML, so the role of a Project Manager is vital. It’s Pauls responsibility to plan and oversee all aspects of a project whether that’s organistion of the team, the task or the resources.
We asked Paul some questions about his background and a typical day as a project manager:
Name: Paul Rawlinson
Position: Project Manager
What is your role at ENWCML?: As a Project Manager at ENWCML, I safely manage high voltage (HV) construction projects on private HV networks in accordance with scope, budget, programme and quality constraints ensuring programmes are executed as agreed with clients, customers and stakeholders.
I manage the on-site efficiency and performance of the ENWCML and subcontractor construction teams, whilst ensuring strict adherence to the company’s safety policy, codes of practice, safety rules and full CDM compliance.
What is your previous experience/background? As a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) at National Grid, I was responsible for ensuring HV (up to 400kV), LV & Mechanical equipment was installed, maintained and refurbished safely in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the companies’ safety from the system safety rules. In addition to the role of SAP I also fulfilled the role of Project Lead (PL) where I ensured adequate resource, time and materials were available for the work to be carried out within the agreed timescales to assist in ensuring continuity of supply was maintained.
What do you enjoy about the work you do? Coming from an electrical engineering background, solving problems to deliver challenging projects is what I enjoy best by about my role, with the satisfaction coming from seeing the results and knowing the difficulties overcome to achieve project completion.
Is there anything that the industry must deal with that you can help to fix?: Individually no, but being an integral part of a forward thinking company like ENWCML and leading the North West to its net zero carbon goal is something that everybody at ENWCML is working towards.
Any previous work achievements which you are proud of? I have achieved lots throughout my engineering career, however achieving Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) must be one of my best achievements to date.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? My free time generally involves doing DIY around the house and spending quality time with the family. I do also enjoy watching Snooker tournaments where possible.
